Via Ferrata Mont Tremblant
Discover the National Park from an all new perspective, in a unique mountain experience, the Via Ferrata Mont Tremblant. Established and already popular in Europe, “via ferratas” or “iron roads” have been springing up all over Quebec in the last few years.
Premiering in Quebec’s national parks and wildlife reserves, this exciting route is built onto the Vache Noire rock wall. Located in Mont-Tremblant park, the Via Ferrata Mont-Tremblant promises to be chock-full of surprises! Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced hiker, you will never forget thisadventure, which you will embark on with a guide. Clipped into a steel cable that runs the length of the cliff, you will safely cross a challenging face with built in steps, handles, beams and various types of bridges while overlooking the meandering Diable River far below. After making a 200-metre ascent, you will be struck by a spectacular view of the mountains and horizon.
No rockclimbing experience is necessary to experience the via ferrata. A brief course will help you learn the basics of via ferrata before tackling the trail. All required safety equipment is provided.
Why Did the Park Create a Via Ferrata?
Rock faces and cliffs are fascinating natural environments, but are inaccessible to the vast majority of national park visitors. In fact, only advanced climbers have access to them in areas where park management permits rock climbing.
In order to allow more visitors to discover these areas, Parc national du Mont-Tremblant created a via ferrata on the rock face of Vache Noire. We have equipped this trail with hardware to facilitate climbing and enhance security. Hikers will take in spectacular views of the sloping mountains and the winding Rivière du Diable and get a chance to experience the park's nature from a totally different angle.
One of the major advantages of this type of installation is that only one path is used for climbing the rock face, which minimizes damage to the area. The park conservation team was in charge of the Via Ferrata du Diable project, ensuring that this important objective was satisfied throughout the design and construction process. There will also be regular follow-ups to ensure that this area is preserved.
To give you more information about the natural environment, the geomorphology and the forces of nature that created the landscape, we have placed two discovery panels along the path.
