Description

Canoe the Diable River in Mont Tremblant National Park on our self-guided canoe trip. Paddle down approximately 12 km of our meandering Diable River and take your time discovering our National Park’s unique mountain landscapes, sandy river beaches, rocky cliffs and wildlife.

Our fleet of canoes is renewed regularly to offer quality, comfort and stability. Paddles, life jackets, a 1 litre waterproof container, and safety kits are included with each canoe rental.

Here’s how it works

When you arrive at the park, check-in and get equipment from our park staff. Load your canoe on the trailer then take a 3 minute transport to Lac Chat put-in (drive yourself in low season). Paddle across this small lake to enter our Diable River (small 100m rapids here, the only one on the whole trip, can be portaged). Paddle downstream, stop for a swim, relax on a beach. Stop at the take-out (just after the 2nd bridge at our Park entrance) to meet our bus. Load your canoe on the bus for the trip back up to where you parked your car.

Helpful Hint!: Our Canoeing – Self-Guided Descent on the Diable River is suitable for beginners. Canoes are designed for 2 people. It is possible to put 3 if one is a child, but we do not recommend putting 4 in a canoe. Canoes have 2 seats. A 3rd person would have to sit on the floor. Do not expect children under 10 to be motivated to paddle the entire length of the trip, they should be put in a canoe with an adult or put in a kayak that could be towed. The best configuration puts at least 1 adult per canoe, no more than 2 adults or 2 adults + 1 child in a canoe. And any extras (odd man out) can be reserved in kayaks.

There are several canoeing/kayaking activities offered in the area, see our comparison table.

Know before you book :

  • Maximum 2 adults and 2 small children (10yrs-) per canoe.
  • Minimum weight: 20 lb / 10kg.
  • Identification card is required and held as a security deposit to ensure the return of the equipment.

Know before you go:

  • Please dress appropriately for canoeing on the Diable River. See our What to wear section.
  • We recommend to bring sunscreen, bug spray, snacks and drinks.

Additional information :

  • Our base is 30-40 minutes from Tremblant resort, less than 1h30 from Montreal and approximately 2h from Ottawa.
  • Duration: Approximately 4 hours (can take as little as 2h30 minutes or as much as 4h30 minutes, everyone paddles differently, the flow of the river changes, wind can be a factor…in short there are many variables).
  • Please note: We only reserve kayaks as additions to canoe reservations and only to avoid putting one participant alone in a canoe.
  • Small rapids ONLY once at the very beginning, after crossing the lake to enter into the river. These can be portaged./
  • For guests who choose to reserve in advance (recommended), directions to meeting points will be provided in your reservation by email. Otherwise, directions will be handed to you when you reserve at The Activity Centre.
  • Prices do not include taxes or mandatory resort royalty of 3% and may be subject to change without notice.

FAQ

FAQ – Canoe Mont-Tremblant National Park

When Should I reserve?

This is a very popular activity. Reservations for weekends and vacations should be made 1 to 2 weeks in advance. For any other time, reservations should be made a few days in advance.

For the canoeing, is the river calm?

There is 1 very small set of rapids at the beginning that can be easily portaged, then current will move you along.

Can I do the self-guided canoe if it is my first time canoeing?

We don’t recommend it if you haven’t paddled a canoe before. Canoes require technique to manoeuvre.

What is the difference between this and the Rouge River self guided trip?

  • The Diable River is narrower with less sun.
  • The Diable River is in a wilderness setting, so more chances to see wildlife. You will not be passing chalets and farms.
  • The Diable River has fewer beaches.
  • The Diable River has more bugs
  • The Diable River is further from Tremblant resort.

There are several canot/ kayak / paddleboard activities offered in the area, see our comparison table.
