Dogsledding - Pre-season training experience

Our Pre-season training experience is an opportunity to be part of our athlete’s training for the up-coming season!

Description

You will first help our guide in harnessing the dogs. Then, you will help train the dogs for about 45 minutes in a side-by-side next to our guide. Back at the base, you will feed the dogs soup.

At the end of your dogsled tour, you will have the chance to visit our kennel and warm up next to a camp fire.

This activity is offered when it hasn’t snowed yet.

Know before you book :

Minimum 9 years old.
Minimum 2 participants.
Maximum 4 participants per departure.

Know before you go:

Please dress appropriately for training our canine athletes outside. Ask if you are unsure or see our What to wear section
No restaurant on site and far from urban area. Recommended to bring a lunch or snacks and beverages.
Guests should be at the meeting point 15 minutes before departure.

Additional information :

Our base is 50 minutes from Tremblant resort, 2h15 from Montreal and 2h30 from Ottawa.
Duration: 1h30.
For guests who choose to reserve in advance (recommended), directions to meeting points will be provided in your reservation by email. Otherwise, directions will be handed to you when you reserve at The Activity Centre.
Prices do not include taxes or mandatory resort royalty of 3% and may be subject to change without notice.

FAQ – Nordic Adventure

When should I reserve?

These are very popular activities. Reservations for weekends and vacations should be made 1 to 2 weeks in advance. For any other time, reservations should be made a few days in advance.

How should we be dressed?

How many people can go on one sled?

We usually configure 2 adults per sled (one driver, one passenger). Children between 3 and 11 years old go with the guides for safety reasons. Configuration also depends on the weather and snow conditions.

Is it hard on the dogs?

These dogs are working dogs who are bred to pull and run in a cold environment. They are trained and fed properly to be able to do it well. They like pulling a sled as much as a retriever likes fetching a stick. This will become obvious just before the ride starts. Feel free to ask your guide anything you want about sled dogs… learning about the dogs is an interesting part of the experience.

Do we drive our own sled?

Yes, participants that are 14 years old and over and a minimum of 90lbs will have a chance to drive the sled, depending on the conditions.

Can we pet the dogs?

Yes, at the end of the ride, you get to pet and reward them.

Is it hard?

This activity can be strenuous for drivers. As a driver you are part of the team, so when the climbs are steep the driver will have to get off and walk, jog or even help push the sled.

Un moment inoubliable avec des gens qui aiment leurs métiers, et qui nous font découvrir la magie du traîneau et de leurs chiens, on replonge en enfance avec cet enthousiasme des instants qui restent gravés à jamais !!!!

Great experience! What a ride in such a cold but sunny weather. Pierre and Matthias (and the whole team) were simply great. We had a blast and felt safe at all times. The team took great care of us. After a short introduction into dog sleighing we went off and had about a 50 minutes ride with enough breaks to check if everybody is okay. After the ride we had hot chocolate and warmed ourselves at a fireplace. Warm clothing is highly recommended in winter, otherwise the cold won’t be pleasant. At the end we had a bit time to feed and pet the dogs, that went on the ride with us. Pictures were taken during the ride, you can buy these at the end. It was a great pleasure, 10/10 would recommend!

We very much enjoyed our time dogsledding! The guides were amazing clearly loved their animals, and cared for them well. It was a beautiful excursion!
