Are there snowmobiling tours for beginners?

Absolutely! Our snowmobiling tours are designed for beginners. These tours often include a briefing and instruction on how to operate the snowmobile before you head out. Experienced guides will accompany the group  throughout the tour, providing guidance as needed.

As a beginner, we recommend starting slowly and building your confidence.

Is it difficult to drive a snowmobile if I never did?

While it may feel unfamiliar at first, driving a snowmobile is generally not overly difficult, especially with proper instruction. Snowmobiles are relatively easy to control, and most modern models have features like reduced acceleration controls. That being said, there are no airbags, abs, or seat belts. There is a higher level, and a different kind of risk associated with snowmobiling than with driving a car. Depending on the tour you choose, during this 2025 winter, you will drive a comfortable 2024 Expedition Sport, a Grand Touring 900 ACE snowmobile or a Bombardier Ace Expedition Sport snowmobile (600 and 900 cc).

If I drive a car, would it be the same as snowmobiling?

While driving a car provides some transferable skills like steering and throttle control, awareness of surroundings, and rights of way, driving a snowmobile has its own unique challenges.

  • Terrain: Snowmobiles operate on varied terrain, including snow, ice, forest, and sometimes even off-trail, which requires different driving techniques than on paved roads.
  • Its not a car: Although snowmobiles are lighter than cars, they steer with handle bars. They do not have a steering wheel or power assist requiring more effort for steering. They accelerate and brake with hand controls not foot controls. They have skis and a track instead of tires.
  • Visibility: Visibility can be limited due to snow and weather conditions, requiring increased awareness and caution.

How is a snowmobile driven?

Driving a snowmobile involves a combination of throttle control, steering, and balance. After starting the engine, drivers usually  gently increase the throttle to accelerate. To steer, they turn the handlebars while leaning slightly into the turn to help guide the snowmobile. That brake gradually using the hand brake. Careful drivers maintain a steady speed and avoid sudden movements, especially on uneven terrain and  always wear appropriate gear, including a helmet, and warm clothing.

How fast do you go on a snowmobe tour in Quebec?

In Quebec, the maximum legal speed limit for snowmobiling on the fasted posted trails is 70 km/h (approximately 43 mph). Our guided snowmobiling tours operate below all speed limits and regulations. Actual speeds will vary depending on factors such as trail conditions (groomed vs. ungroomed), weather, and the specific tour trail.

Depending on the group of guests, the guide could choose  lower speeds to allow participants to comfortably learn and enjoy the experience. For a tour with more advanced participants, the guide may allow for slightly higher speeds in suitable areas, but always within acceptable limits. It’s crucial to always follow the instructions and guidance of your tour guide regarding speed.

It’s important to know that there is an element of risk in all outdoor activities. Snowmobiles can go fast. During our tour : after a security briefing, you will drive the snowmobile yourself if you have signed up as a driver. This means YOU control the speed. Risks are minimized by running the excursions under the supervision of professional guides. The group always follows guides on dedicated snowmobile trails. It is important to follow the instructions that are given at the beginning of the ride.
